The Fatal Night
Tom, sixteen, got his license during his first ever driving exam. He was very nervous before his exam, but he calmed down after his written exam. The examiner told Tom that he was a very good driver, and Tom thanked her. When Tom got his license, his parents gave him their old car to drive around.
A few weeks after Tom got his license, Tom decided to take the car for a drive with a bunch of his friends. Tom called up his friends and asked them to wait for him and he'll be there right away. Tom picked up his best friend, Eli, and another good friend, Pavel.
Pavel asked Tom, "Can we pick up Minnie? She said there is a really good party going on at the next town."
Tom decided it was fine with him, so they picked up Minnie. Minnie told them that there was a good party in the next town, Huey. Tom drove out to Huey.
There party was in full force by the time they arrived. Tom parked the car and went into the house with his friends. The music was blaring out to meet them and Pavel opened the door for them.
Minnie entered and disappeared right away. She came back and she was holding four bottles of beer. She handed them out to Pavel and Eli. Minnie offered one to Tom.
Tom declined saying, "Some one has to be sober to drive home or else we all might be killed."
Minnie replied, "Sure, whatever. Just means there is one more for me."
Tom had some pop instead and he was having a great time with his friends. He met a girl named Sandra and they began to talk. They found a quiet corner to talk in and Tom found out a lot about Sandra.
Sandra is from Huey and is sixteen. Sandra likes all sports especially hockey and she does very well in school.
Tom was thinking as Sandra talked about herself, "We have a lot of the similar interests and I like hockey and I also do well in school. Um, may be she will go out with me."
Sandra asked, "Do you have your car here now?"
"Yeah, why?" asked Tom.
"Well would you be willing to give me a ride home when you leave?"
"Sure," replied Tom.
It was after one in the morning, when Tom found Pavel, Eli and Minnie, and were in the car. Sandra came along with them. Sandra directed them to her house and when Sandra got out of the car, Tom got out too. He walked her to the door and asked:
"When can I see you again?"
"Well there is a party out in Simpy tomorrow night, I'll be there and you can come if you want to," replied Sandra.
"I'll talk with my friends and see if we can go. I really don't see why not." With that, Tom kissed Sandra on the cheek and walked back to the car.
"Tom and Sandra ... wooo ..." chanted Eli, Pavel and Minnie.
"Hey, she is a nice person and she has invited us to another party tomorrow," replied Tom and starting the car.
"Alright, another party," said Pavel and he began to sing. Eli and Minnie joined in with Pavel.
Tom was having a hard time concentrating on the road with Sandra on his mind and with Pavel, Eli and Minnie singing very loudly.
Tom dropped his friends off at his front door and he went to park the car. His friends made themselves at home and soon they were fast asleep. But, Tom just couldn't sleep with Sandra on his mind.
In the morning, Eli, Minnie and Pavel, all had major hangovers. They remembered a bit from the party, the night before but not too much. They did not remember that Tom had met Sandra.
Tom asked them, "So how was your sleep?"
Minnie replied, "Whatever. Can you please keep your voice down."
"Yeah, sure," responded Pavel and Eli. "Tom are we doing anything tonight?"
"Yep, we are going to another party out in Simpy. Sandra invited us."
"Cool, another party," responded Pavel getting off the couch. "And the funny part is, I believe Tom likes a girl."
"Oh, Shut up," retorted Tom.
That evening, the four of them got in to the car and drove out to Simpy. Tom found out where the party was and they drove up to the door.
Sandra was waiting there for Tom. Sandra looked the same except this time she was already drinking. Sandra looked at Tom and offered him a beer. Again, Tom declined.
Sandra led Tom to a quiet corner and they continued their talking from the night before.
In another part of the house, Pavel and Minnie were by themselves and they decided to go up to a bedroom. Also, Eli was trying to pick up a girl, but it didn't seem to be working. He went from one girl to another and they all turned him down.
Around one in the morning, Tom decided it was time to get going. First, he had to find Pavel, Minnie, and Eli. Sandra was already with Tom.
Tom got behind the wheel of the car, Sandra slipped in beside him, and Eli got in beside her. In the back seat, Minnie and Pavel were very closely beside each other. Everyone except Tom had a few bottles of beer with them.
Tom was trying to drive and Sandra kept trying to crawl on to his lap. Tom was becoming very annoyed.
Tom stopped at a light and when it turned green, Tom stepped on the gas. Tom thought the one vehicle to his left had stopped but the driver in the other vehicle didn't stop. The other vehicle ran directly into Tom's vehicle.
Eli, Pavel and Minnie got out of the vehicle on the other side. Eli was trying to help Sandra out when Pavel went around to the other side to help Tom out. He looked at the car.
The truck collided directly into the car. The left side of the car did not even looked like a car. The metal was bent every single way and Pavel was surprised he was still alive. He went over to Tom and looked at him. Tom did not look good at all.
Pavel yelled, "Minnie go to a house and tell the people there to call the ambulance."
Pavel went to the truck. The truck had a bent fender and a few scratches and some of the paint came off. The driver was slowly getting out of the drivers seat, but he could barely stand up.
Pavel went over to the driver and told him to sit down. Four other people slowly came out of the truck and they were laughing and drinking. One of the girlswent over to the driver and offered him another beer.
The police, ambulance, and the firetruck came with sirens blaring.
They got Tom out of the vehicle and put him on to a stretcher. Eli came over to Tom and he said:
"Why Tom? You weren't even drinking. You were the only sober driver around. Why? WHY?" A police officer came over to Eli and took him to the side and talked to him.
Tom did not looked like Tom to Eli. Tom had blood all over him and his face was almost smashed in.
Tom was taken to the hospital in Simpy and they flew Tom out to Vancouver, to the Children's Hospital. Eli, Pavel, Minnie and Sandra were taken to the Simpy hospital and were released. Eli's mother, Ellen, came to pick the four of them up.
"Mom," Eli began, "Tom was badly injured in the car accident and he was taken to the hospital in Vancouver."
"Oh my, I can't beleive it," replied Ellen.
"Mom, Tom was not drinking but he was the one who was injured. Mom, why is it that?"
"I don't know son," replied Ellen. She dropped off Sandra at her place, then she dropped off Pavel and Minnie.
Ellen turned towards Eli, "Eli, would you like to pick up Judy and drive out to Vancouver?" Judy is Tom's mother.
"Yeah, I would like to be with Tom," replied Eli.
Ellen drove out to Foghorn and picked up Judy and they drove for forty five minutes to Vancouver.
When they got to the hospital, they were told that Tom was going into surgery. Tom had to go to surgery for many compounded factures to his legs, but the main worry was Tom's spine.
After a four hour wait, the doctor came out. He said:
"I am Doctor Ban and I have worked on your son for many hours in surgery. I had to fuse your son's back for the time being because of the spinal injury. Your son is also on life support. We did as much as we could for the time being."
"May we see him?" asked Judy.
"Yes, but one at a time and don't be too long."
Each of them went into the Intensive Care Unit and visited with Tom, even though Tom didn't reply. Eli went in, looked at Tom and began to cry. He couldn't believe what had happened to Tom, his best friend. This person on the bed did not look anything like the Tom he knows. Eli left the room a few minutes later and turned to Ellen and began to cry on her shoulder.
About ten minutes after Eli left Tom's room, a noise came from the room. Code Blue was called. The doctors and nurses went running to Tom's room. Tom's heart had stopped. The doctors tried to get a beat from his heart for another twenty minutes. Nothing came.
Again Dr. Ban came out and turned to Judy, Ellen and Eli, he said:
"I am terribly sorry but Tom just couldn't make it."
"NO, that can't be," Judy fell down and began to really cry for the first time since the accident. Ellen held Judy and Eli, and they cried for another hour.
Ellen decided it was time to go home and tell the others in the community.
A week a later a funeral was held for Tom. Eli just couldn't believe that Tom was dead. His best friend was killed in a car accident and he was the innocent one.
Eli went into a deep depression and he thought of death all the time. Eli tried to talk to people, especially his mother, but no one seemed to listen to him. Eli decided to do something:
To whom I love,
Tom's death was too much for me.
I love you all a lot, but I just can't handle losing another friend to a drunk driver.
I love you, Mom.
Your son,
Eli
Eli got the gun from the drawer, loaded it and put it in his mouth. Eli died instantly. Ellen found Eli on the kitchen floor, blood everywhere. Ellen called the police and they came to her place. They took Eli away on a stretcher with a cloth covering his head.
Another funeral was held for Eli. This time the funeral was really hard on Ellen and Judy. However, Ellen knew that Tom and Eli are back together again.
I do not mind replies on my writing.
