hello everyone. well, things have changed since the last time you have been to this page. i ended up taking a break from Karate / TaeKwon-Do. i ended up not liking my time at Sheer's and i my knee was really hurting worse than before. so, i ended it and took a break for almost 5 years. HOWEVER, i am back in a martial art again, and this time it is with the International Taekwon-do Federation (ITF). again i am enjoying it and the patterns are really enforced through the ITF and i like that. you see, Sheer's didn't really focus on the patterns and i just wasn't getting anything out of it. so, i have joined ITF in september 2005 and i started back off at the white belt. but i was more advance than most people because i have taken WTF. the new things are the patterns - there are 24 of them. why 24??? because The life of a human being, perhaps 100 years, can be considered as a day when compared with eternity. Therefore, we, mortals, are no more than simple travelers who pass by the eternal years of an eon in a day.
It is evident that no one can live more than a limited amount of time. Nevertheless, most people foolishly enslave themselves to materialism as if they could live for thousands of years. Some people strive to bequeath a good spiritual legacy for coming generations, this way, they gain immortality. Obviously, the spirit is perpetual while material is not. Therefore, what we can do to leave behind something for the welfare of mankind is, perhaps, the most important thing in our lives.
there is a lot more of a focus on the patterns and the whole idea of the "Sine wave". i like it because it seems to move more smoothly and continuous. i haven't realized how much power can be in my body when i move it properly. i like it. i found out something today and i thought it was quite interesting ... WTF focuses more on the sparring ... ITF focuses more on the patterns. WTF is more of full-contact and ITF is more along the lines of semi-contact (in other words, light to no touching but with more control). i just thought i would like to share that with you, because i found it to be of interest to me.

Essential Information about Patterns
The following points should be considered while performing patterns:
1. Pattern should begin and end at exactly the same spot. This will indicate the performer's accuracy.
2. Correct posture and facing must be maintained at all times.
3. Muscles of the body should be either tensed or relaxed at the proper critical moments in the exercise.
4. The exercise should be performed in a rhythmic movement with an absence of stiffness.
5. Movement should be accelerated or decelerated according to the instructions in this book.
6. Each pattern should be perfected before moving to the next .
7. Students should know the purpose of each movement.
8. Students should perform each movement with realism.
9. Attack and defence techniques should be equally distributed among right and left hands and feet.

Karate

I have recently just started participating at Scheer's School of Martial Arts and I am enjoying it a lot more than Tae Kwon Do. I am learning so much more and am able to participate at my level.

Ed actually got me convinced to join him in Karate and I am glad I didn't say "No". The instructor is so nice and he knows what it is like to not being able to use a knee like every one else. The instructor has martial arts experince in Judo, Tae Kwon Do, Boxing, Kickboxing, Brazilian Jui Jutsu, Zen Combat System, and Zen Karate Do. He has black belts in all of them, or almost all of them.

I am glad I changed schools even though I had to start over at white belt. This class has adults - 13 and over - and it is nice to have people your own size versus having to work with someone half your size.

Tae Kwon Do

I was in Tae Kwon Do since April 1998 until February 2000. I attended the College of True Martial Arts and I received my blue belt with a red stripe. I just had my testing for my blue belt on December 10th, 1999. I have already gone through the white, yellow and green belts, and I have just the red belt before I achieve my black belt. I am so close. However, at this time I have had to take a break from Tae Kwon Do, because I want to save up for our wedding in Feb. 2001. Eventually, I will get back into Tae Kwon Do and I will receive my black belt and Edward is holding me to that.

The College of True Martial Arts is affiliated under the World Tae Kwon Do Federation (WTF).
